Fire protection class Fire resistance rating HB In the horizontal fire test, the material burns slowly. During this, the burn speed may not exceed 3 inches/min up to a wall thickness of 3 mm and 1.5 inches /min with a wall thickness of above 3 mm. Materials which exceed these limit values for burn speed will not be registered by UL. Fire resistance rating V2 In the vertical fire test, the fire must extinguish of its own accord after an average of 25 seconds (individual cases not more than 30 seconds). Burning drops from the material may ignite cotton wool placed under it. It may not smoulder for longer than 60 seconds. Fire resistance rating V1 In the vertical fire test, likewise the fire must extinguish of its own accord after an average of 25 seconds (individual cases not more than 30 seconds). On the other hand, any burning drops must not ignite the cotton wool. Smouldering must have ceased after 30 seconds. Fire resistance rating V0 In the vertical fire test, the fire must extinguish of its own accord in less than 5 seconds (individual cases not more than 10 seconds). Any burning drops must not ignite the cotton wool and smouldering must have ceased after 30 seconds.
Material This material is mainly used for the manufacture of our plastic cable glands such as the HSK-K. You can choose between the standard colours grey, black and blue. It is possible to choose a customer specific colouring. PE: polyethylene We use only small amounts of PE, for example for thread seals or in sealing unions. SB: styrene-butadiene Styrene butadiene demonstrates good ageing stability and shows only little swelling in inorganic and organic acids and bases as well as alcohols and water. It is inert to brake-fluid. It is more resilient to weathering than natural rubber but is worse than for instance chloroprene rubber (CR) and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM). PVDF: polyvinylidene fluoride This material combines superb chemical durability with good mechanical properties. PVDF materials have: good stability and a high temperature resistance. Metal: Brass Is an amalgamate of copper and zinc. Suitable for a dry atmosphere, freshwater, steam, mineral oils, fuels, cooling and lubricating agents as well as many organic emulsions. Conditionally suitable for seawater, brackish water, damp atmospheres, acids and bases. Nickel plated brass The brass fittings offer good resistance to steam, some salt solutions and many organic liquids. The nickel plating increases the wear and corrosion resistance. 1.4305 Stainless steel (AISI 303). Good resistance to diluted organic and oxidising acids and bases as well as neutral and alkaline salt solutions and organic substances. Not suitable for inorganic acids with halogens, chlorides and chlorine solutions or atmospheres. 1.4404 Corrosion resistant steel (AISI 316L), due to its characteristics ideal for applications with chemically aggressive aqueous media or offshore wind parks. Aluminium Relatively soft and light metal with good chemical resistance, excellent heat resistance and excellent corrosion resistance. Zinc die-casting Weathering resistant and acid-proof metal with relatively low melting point. Seals NBR: acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber Seals from NBR offer superb resistance to oils and fuels. FKM: Fluoro rubber The sealing material FPM is particularly suited to high temperatures up to 200°C and is highly resistant to oils and fats. Additionally, it is UV and ozone stable. Elastomer: Thermoplastic elastomer. This offers a good resistance to weathering, ozone and ageing. TPE is resistant to diluted acids and bases, it is however not suitable for concentrated acids, bases and solvents. VMQ: Silicone MVQ silicone is very well suited to low temperatures down to - 60°C and high temperatures up to 200°C. Moreover, it is UV and ozone stable. Polyethylene: Polyethylene is resistant to nearly all polar solvents ( < 60°C), acids, bases, water, alcohols; PE-HD as well to petrol. Fiber composite:
EMC The European EMC Directive defines electromagnetic compatibility as follows: the capability of an apparatus, an industrial plant, or a system to work satisfactorily in the electromagnetic environment without at the same time causing electromagnetic disturbance which would be unacceptable to apparatus, industrial plant, or systems present in this environment.
UV Resistance The material of the HSK series in black has been tested to ULf1 and thus an increased resistance to UV radiation. In general, for the colour

Technical Information When Hummel connectors are used for voltages greater than 50 Volts with conductive shell components they must be used in accordance with the safety regulations DIN VDE Part 410; IEC 60364-4-41. This regulation basically dictates that the power source should be turned off before mating and unmating connector. This regulation does not provide protection against electrical shock when mating and unmating connectors in the field
No Limits Customer specific solutions for your joining technology. HUMMEL offers you, in addition to the standard connector program, individual solutions and circular connectors for your projects. The following Solutions give you a short insight in the development and production of customer specific products

Certification for HUMMEL products As a manufacturer of products which find application in explosion protected areas, HUMMEL AG is subject to special Directives, Standards and auditing. Among other products, HUMMEL AG manufactures the following products which can be used in explosion protected areas
Background information The concept of explosion prevention has its origins in places endangered by
What is an explosion? According to DIN EN 1127-1:1997, an explosion is an oxidation or decay reaction generating an increase in temperature or pressure or both simultaneously
Explosion prevention By primary explosion prevention are understood all the measures which prevent a potentially explosive atmosphere from occurring. Here for example it is possible to replace a potentially explosive material by another with no danger of explosion, (e.g.: replace paints containing solvents by water-based paints). Furthermore, the materials can be isolated, i.e.: to prevent the admission of air and thus of oxygen. If it is not possible to prevent a potentially explosive atmosphere, then measures must be taken which prevent ignition of the potentially explosive atmosphere.
Zones relates to areas in which a potentially explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture of air and gases, vapours or mist exists continuously, for long periods or frequently.
Apparatus Groups Devices which are intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres are divided into two groups. Cf: IEC Standard 60079-0:20
Device Category The Device Category is determined depending on the corresponding potentially explosive Zone in which a device is to be used.
EPL n accordance with IEC Standard 60079-0 (2007), devices for potentially explosive areas are divided into three protection levels (for devices in mine workings susceptible to firedamp, two protection levels are laid down):
Temperature Classes All combustible gases and vapours are categorised according to their ignition temperature. The ignition temperature (also known as ignition point, auto-ignition temperature, flash-point) is the temperature to which a material or a contact surface must be heated so that a combustible substance (solid material, fluid, or their vapours or gases) in the presence of air without sparks, solely as the result of being heated – i.e.: without a source of ignition - ignites itself.
