HUMMEL AG achieved a total turnover of 73.4 million euros in 2018, exceeding its previous year’s record of 71.5 million euros. “This is a good result given that the general economic situation deteriorated somewhat during the course of 2018,” explains CEO Holger Hummel.
Electromechanical components form the largest product segment at HUMMEL AG; these include cable glands and circular connectors. HUMMEL AG generated more than three quarters of its overall sales in this segment and achieved growth of 5.5% during the past year. HUMMEL AG customers can be found all around the globe. “We consider this an advantage as we are not dependent on a small group of customers or industries,” reports Holger Hummel. Customers come from the automation, machinery and equipment design, and sensor technology industries as well as the energy sector. The strongest export market accounting for almost 10% of total sales is China, followed by the USA/Canada, Italy and France. The largest growth was recorded in these markets, which is owed to the strategy of constant internationalisation over recent years. In China, sales increased by 8%, while in Italy and France they increased by as much as 10% during the past year. “Whether this great development of the export markets will continue against the backdrop of numerous political risks cannot be reliably determined at the moment as economic uncertainty continues to grow,” explains Holger Hummel. However, we look positively at the future since HUMMEL’s connectivity solutions are some of the key technologies used in the digitalisation of production facilities.
Around 13% of sales are generated by the heating accessories sector. These include numerous problem-solving products for heating equipment such as fittings, screws and bleed valves. This segment also saw slight growth during the past year (2.4%). HUMMEL will provide even more solutions for potable water systems in future. Several new products were presented at the ISH 2019, the leading trade fair for water, climate and heating in Frankfurt. “In this way, we are strengthening HUMMEL’s existing segment while setting our sights on further growth,” continues CEO Holger Hummel.
HUMMEL employees 603 people worldwide (2017: 544), of which 378 employees (2017: 331) work at the two sites in Denzlingen and Waldkirch. And this trend continues to grow. Skilled workers in the metal and plastic production industries have particularly good opportunities here. HUMMEL AG traditionally focuses heavily on promoting new talent when recruiting. There are currently 29 interns in the areas of metal production, plastic technology, product design, logistics and industrial sales staff.
